SOS--Stomp Out Stigma--is a reason why we walk.
We want to inform the community that mental illness is REAL.
1 in 5 people experience mental illness in a given year.

2016 marks the 14th year of NAMI Walks.  People throughout northwest Georgia have participated each year since 2005.

KICKOFF LUNCHEON

Wednesday, Aug. 3
11:30 - 1:00 PM
Goodwill Training Center
54 Hicks Dr.
Rome
BBQ and 3 sides from Sonny's
PURPOSE:  Short course on being a Georgia Mental Health Super Hero!

Fifty one people attended and had a wonderful time.  Charlotte and Beth wooed the audience.  Great lunch from Sonny's and cupcakes from Publix.  The need to change the image of mental illness and move towards wellness through proper mental health services was apparent.  NAMI plays a huge role in the puzzle--who else has the lived experience that can educate, support, and advocate?  The Walk puts NAMI's name upfront while raising funds to get its free programs into the hands of those who are in desperate need.  The KOL touched base on the need and empowered the audience to be Georgia Mental Health Heroes by forming walk teams.  Besides the practical matter, everyone had fun!
